My Why

I’ve been drawn to birth, motherhood, and babies for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was constantly playing “mom” or “midwife,” and caring for anything baby-related. Nurturing others has always felt natural to me- before I had words for what that meant.

I come from a family with strong connections to birth and motherhood, and I like to think some of my qualities were shaped by my late grandmothers, after whom I am both named. One of my grandmothers was a labor and delivery nurse, and would often encourage me as a child to pursue my dreams of working with moms and babies in some way. I feel part of my passion comes from her, and I know she would be so proud that I am pursuing Doula work. My other grandmother birthed and raised twelve children of her own and was one of the most nurturing people I know. I like to think that I got a little piece of her nurturing heart as well.

My siblings and I were also all born at home, and I was present for the birth of my baby sister when I was just three years old. This early experience planted a seed I believe in my later passion for supporting families during the transformative times of birth and postpartum.

As I grew older, I developed a deep interest in the anatomy & well being of the female body as well as psychology as a whole. As my learning in both areas expanded, I became more aware of how often women are overlooked—especially how often they are not supported, heard, or treated with the care and respect they deserve during the one of the most vulnerable times of life. Birth and postpartum. I also began to understand how profoundly these experiences can impact women emotionally and mentally— for years beyond birth, and even for a lifetime.

Becoming a Doula is the path that brings all of my interests together. It allows me to combine my love of psychology, advocacy for birthing individuals, and my natural nurturing qualities in a meaningful way. My continued learning about the history of childbirth and where we are today as a society continues to deepen and shape my passion for this work.

I believe every woman and every family deserves to feel informed, supported, and respected throughout birth and postpartum. My intention as a Doula is to help create a birthing and postpartum space where you feel seen, empowered, and cared for in the ways that matter most to you. I would be honored to walk alongside you in your birth and postpartum story.
